Amethyst, Pearl, Crystal Necklace, Sterling Silver Chain, 40 cm + 6 cm extender, Model 90GEAM, by Dew

Amethyst, Pearl, Crystal Necklace, Sterling Silver Chain, 40 cm + 6 cm extender, Model 90GEAM, by Dew

Looks reasonable in the pictures but in reality jems, pearls and crystals minute. May be OK for child but not for best beloved.......
Serves me right for buying jewelry on the internet!

I am not sure who can wear it - perhaps a child - I think that it would be lost over a blouse or jumper

Delicate, but with some weight; well coordinated, beautiful colours. The photo does not do it justice. I love the way the stones/pearls are threaded.

The presentation box was disappointing, but as I bought the necklace for myself, this was not a problem.Bought this along with the matching bracelet and it is stunningly beautiful and makes my wife look so elegant. It is lightweight and subtle and catches the eye magnificently. I was a bit worried about the length but it sits perfectly around the neck, longer than a choker but not as long as a chain. Well recommended.

Art of Gemstone in the Memories of Brend Munsteiner

By Umar Ahmed

Origin of gemstone's art
The art of gemstone is such a kind of skills which takes a substantial amount of time and acquaintance. It derives from the word Lapidary which means a stone.

How can we define the art of gemstone
A lapidary is the work of an artisan who practices various and different kinds of skills such as crafting, forming, stone finishing, minerals, gemstones etc. A gemstone art consists of some durable materials like ambers, shells, jets, pearls, copal's, corals, horns, bones, glasses and other synthetics.
How and why gemstone is an art
Gemstone is not a craft rather than an art because it includes cutting, carving, faceting, shining rocks and gemstones. More and more inspiring stuff of the art of gemstone is that it requires a little amount of skill to cut and shape the design. This art of gemstones has been emerged for the last 40 years all around the world which is also named as the art of gem cutting.

How art of gemstone emerged
The art of gemstones cutting emerged in Europe and the United States of America. However, there are some rumors regarding emergence of gemstones that it was firstly started in Germany and reckoned as the most aesthetic art which was named as Bernd Munsteiner.

Gemstones as the ancestral art
Munsteiner was trained as the man of lapidary in Idar-Oberstein. He basically got all kinds of gemstone trainings and arts from his ancestor's practicum. That is why we could say simply that the state of Germany has been well-known for the last 500 years for its custom of fine gemstones acerbic. The art of gemstone cutting has been passing from generation to generation in all over the regions of Germany.

Munsteiner as the father of gemstone
It was the Munsteiner who brought a stunning revolution in the art of gemstones such as new changing, innovative directions and emerging styles of gemstone cutting, carving, crafting and designing etc. By seeing such innovative stuff of Munsteiner, the new generation of the art of gemstones in modern times has been compelled to really act upon the aesthetics of Munsteiner.

Magical works of Munsteiner
Munsteiner premeditated canvassing, sculpting, painting, jewelry and designing from the school of arts at Pforzheim and he suddenly embarked on the contemporary imaginative thoughts towards the traditional art of lapidary. During the works of gemstones, Munsteiner would leave suddenly the elements of a pearl rare which was kept unrefined to create a Spartan. That was not produced in a good quality, but after cutting the gemstones, Munsteiner would shape and polish the gemstone in such a wonderful style that would look like worth seeing. Moreover, he was the master of cutting and featuring in the backside of the gems. So that he would be able to form a design of embedded gemstone. From time to time he would amalgamate insertion into the design.

Concluding remarks
In a nut shell, we can say that Munsteiner was the renowned artist of his times. He was the master of gemstones as well as the sculpture designing. Today, the majority of the gemstone artists have been following the memorable works of Munsteiner all around the world.

The New Zealand Maori Tiki Is A Testament To The Art And History Of Our Country

The New Zealand Maori Tiki Is A Testament To The Art And History Of Our Country

By Ru Terry

The term tiki is applied to carved human figures generally, both by the Maori and by other Polynesians. The name possibly has some connection with the myth of Tiki, the first man created by Tane. On the other hand tiki or tikitiki is also a general term for carving in many parts of Polynesia, as, for instance, in Niue, where the Tiki myth is unknown and human figures were not carved. In New Zealand, however, tiki is usually applied to the human figure carved in green stone as a neck ornament. The full name is hei-tiki.

It has been suggested that this ornament is a fertility charm representing the human embryo, and that it should be worn only by women. However, early European visitors saw men wearing the hei-tiki and it is probable that the squat shape of the figure was influenced by the hardness of the material and that it was later likened to an embryo and endowed with magical powers. The shape is also probably due to the fact that tiki were often made from adze blades. Adzes and chisels made from greenstone were also prestige items and the shape of a green stone adze lends itself to conversion into a tiki. There are several extant examples of half-finished tiki evidently originally small adzes and sometimes on completed tiki, traces of the original cutting end shaping of a adze can be seen, usually at the foot.

Tiki or heitiki are most commonly made from nephrite, a stone related to jade and found in several places in New Zealand's South Island. It is called pounamu in Maori, green stone in New Zealand English. The Maori name for the South Island, Te Wai Pounamu, refers to this stone. There are traditional accounts for the creation of the stone which relate it to the children of Tangaroa. It is a very hard stone and is laborious to work, especially so with the primitive grinding tools available to the neolithic Maori. The tiki in the form illustrated here is unique to New Zealand and arguably the most archetypical Maori artifact, although the work tiki applied to fertility symbols is extremely common throughout polynesia.

Green stone, like jade, is a beautiful stone - classed as semi-precious - and quite variable in appearance. The varieties have Maori names. Its luster improves with age, reputedly as a result of being worn next to the skin. Tiki were worn around the neck - the hei part of the name carries this implication. They are more often, but not exclusively, worn by women in recent times. Suspension is usually vertical but some are suspended on their side.

Some traditional tiki in bone and ivory exist, made from whale bone or teeth, but as bone tiki are now commonly made for commercial trade, a bone tiki found in a shop is more likely to be recent and of cow bone. Most tiki are one sided but a few are reversible showing a figure on both faces.

Although the Maori have occupied New Zealand since about 1000 AD, the historical origins of tiki are not understood as they are virtually absent from the archaeological record. For a precious item, this is not surprising because few would have been lost or discarded. Conventionally though they are associated with the later part of New Zealand's prehistory, as nephrite is uncommon in early sites. They were certainly in use at the time of the first contact with Europeans. Some individual tiki have names and traditional histories extending well back into the past. Others have renewed suspension perforations replacing old ones that have worn through, showing they have seen much use over a long time.

Sites of manufacture of nephrite tools and ornaments have been found on the east coast of the South Island. However, the tools and ornaments were much used in the North Island where most of the population lived. Trade and exchange appears not to have been all in finished goods because there are regional styles of nephrite ornaments in the North Island which suggest that at least some of the manufacture was local, either from native stone or from green stone adze blades.

There is some variety in the forms of tiki but this variation has not been very fully studied in relation to region of origin. The head inclined left or right appears to have no particular significance. One clear variation is between tiki with the head upright and those with the head tilted sideways. The likely explanation for the latter form is that it comes naturally from the use of rectangular adze blades as raw material. Iron axe and adze blades rapidly replaced nephrite adzes in the early 19th century and coincided with an increasing market for commercial tiki. Other variations occur in the positions of the arms. In some the arms are asymmetric with one arm on the torso rather than the legs, or up to the mouth.

The eyes are often filled with red sealing wax of European origin. Wax was added to the eyes of older tiki, and some have paua (Haliotus, the abalone) shell eyes.

The arrival of 19th century technology allowed a major burst of commercial manufacture of tiki mainly for a New Zealand market. Many supposedly old tiki date from the late 19th century and reveal themselves through details such as the suspension perforation being straight sided. Some nephrite ornaments were gold mounted in the 19th century. Again this does not necessarily indicate the nephrite ornament was of that date.

Tiki remain prestige items in New Zealand today; heirlooms (toanga) in Maori families and European families as well. They are worn by Maori on ceremonial occasions. Most tiki are not ancient and some are 19th century commercial products but nonetheless highly valued treasures to their owners.

Materials used
Hei-tiki are usually made of pounamu (green stone) and worn around the neck. They are often incorrectly referred to as tiki, a term that actually refers to large human figures carved in wood, and, also, the small wooden carvings used to mark sacred places.

One theory of the origin of the hei-tiki suggests a connection with Tiki, the first man in Māori legend. According to Horatio Robley, there are two main ideas behind the symbolism of hei-tiki: they are either memorials to ancestors, or represent the goddess of childbirth, Hineteiwaiwa. The rationale behind the first idea is that they were often buried when their kaitiaki (guardian) died and would be later retrieved and placed somewhere special to be brought out in times of tangihanga. In terms of the idea of Hineteiwaiwa, hei-tiki were often given to women having trouble conceiving by her husband's family.

The most valuable hei-tiki are carved from green stone or pounamu. New Zealand green stone consists of either nephrite (a type of jade, in Māori: pounamu) or bowenite (Māori: tangiwai). Pounamu is esteemed highly by Māori for its beauty, toughness and great hardness; it is used not only for ornaments such as hei-tiki and ear pendants, but also for carving tools, adzes, and weapons. Named varieties include translucent green kahurangi, whitish inanga, semi-transparent kawakawa, and tangiwai or bowenite.

Types of Hei-tiki
Traditionally there were several types of hei-tiki which varied widely in form. Modern-day hei-tiki however, may be divided into two types. The first type is rather delicate. with a head/body ratio of approximately 30/70, with small details included, such as ears, elbows, and knees. The head is on a tilt, and one hand is placed on the thigh, and the other on the chest. The eyes are relatively small. The second type is in general heavier than the first. It has a 40/60 head/body ratio, both hands are on the thighs, and the eyes are proportionately larger.

Manufacture
From the size and style of traditional examples of hei-tiki it is likely that the stone was first cut in the form of a small adze. The tilted head of the pitau variety of hei-tiki derives from the properties of the stone - its hardness and great value make it important to minimise the amount of the stone that has to be removed. Creating a hei-tiki with traditional methods is a long, arduous process during which the stone is smoothed by abrasive rubbing; finally, using sticks and water, it is slowly shaped and the holes bored out. After laborious and lengthy polishing, the completed pendant is suspended by a plaited cord and secured by a loop and toggle.

Current popularity
Among the other tāonga (treasured possessions) used as items of personal adornment are bone carvings in the form of earrings or necklaces. For many Māori the wearing of such items relates to Māori cultural identity. They are also popular with young New Zealanders of all backgrounds for whom the pendants relate to a more generalized sense of New Zealand identity. Several artistic collectives have been established by Māori tribal groups. These collectives have begun creating and exporting jewelery (such as bone carved pendants based on traditional fishhooks hei matau and other green stone jewelery) and other artistic items (such as wood carvings and textiles). Several actors who have recently appeared in high-profile movies filmed in New Zealand have come back wearing such jewelery, including Viggo Mortensen of The Lord of the Rings fame, took to wearing a hei matau around his neck. These trends have contributed towards a worldwide interest in traditional Māori culture and arts.

Lady Gaga Silver Sequin Dress Costume

Elements Sterling Silver P2802B Ladies' Black Agate and Marcasite Heart Pendant on Chain

By Kenneth Elliott
To fans of Lady Gaga, the Lady Gaga Silver Sequin Dress Costume is no doubt one of the eternal favorites. It is classy and chic and yet so bold and outrageous. It is the perfect mix, who has made headlines in fashion magazines and columns with the outrageous and outlandish costumes she has donned in her career. No costume of hers has failed to get gasps of surprise and admiration from all onlookers. No wonder Lady Gaga costumes are hot favorites in the Halloween season. However, there is little doubt that her Silver Sequin Dress Costume is one of the best costumes to don this season.

The Silver Sequin Dress Costume is a short, body fitting dress, in keeping with most of lady Gaga's dresses. It is a shoulder-off or strapless dress, which hugs the body at the top and flares out at the bottom. However, the design is far more interesting than the image this description brings to mind. To begin with, the flares are semi-circular flares that seem attached to the dress, not a part of the dress itself, giving it a slightly out of the world, over the top look. There is also a triangular, asymmetrical flare at the top which increases the sense of asymmetry and adds to the overall glamour of the look. The dress, overall, is extremely sexy, yet stops at being way too revealing. Lady Gaga is known to be very scantily dressed, especially for her stage performances, but in this case, you need not worry about showing off inappropriately.

The Silver Sequin Dress Costume also features a sexy eye mask that is made of silver glitter. It is two made of asymmetrical triangular shaped and looks very sexy and appealing. The half hidden, half shown look looks glamorous and the asymmetry matches perfectly with that of the dress.
Of course, no Lady Gaga costume can be complete without the right wig. She is rarely seen without a wig and the Sequin Dress Costume also features a characteristic wig that is perfectly styled for the costume. In this case, it is a short blond wig. You can go with a platinum wig with curls or a blond wig in her trademark bob cut. Either wig will match the costume just fine, but the platinum wig is likely to match the colors of the Lady Gaga Silver Sequin Dress Costume better.

The Lady Gaga Silver Sequin Dress Costume cannot be complete without the right pantyhose and shoes. In this case, the choice of pantyhose is industrial nylon sheer black pantyhose. The heels, on the other hand, are ankle length boots with high stiletto heels. While these are the ideal choices, you can improvise a bit. You could opt for fishnet stockings as opposed to sheer nylon ones. With shoes, ideally stick to the high heel ankle length boots variety.

Silver Necklaces for the Ladies of Fashion and Style

Element Sterling Silver, Ladies', P3076B, Black Cubic Zirconia Teardrop Pendant on 46cm Diamond Cut Curb Chain

By Jo Alelsto

Women love just jewellery. Only they can appreciate the true value of a glinting piece clinging around the neck, hugging the wrists, and those enfolding the fingers. An elegant necklace is probably the best gift a man can give to her lady.

But buying necklaces is perhaps a troublesome thing for someone. Whether you are buying a necklace for yourself or for somebody else, the first thing you need to do is look for popular shops in your place. If you cannot find one, then going online for jewellery shopping isn't a bad option.

There are many materials for necklaces and one of the best pick in the market is one made of sterling silver, which is flashy and elegant.

Silver necklaces have this power of throwing out brilliance and statement. Say nothing when you are donning a lustrous piece of elegance around your neck. Silver is in the league of gold or platinum and designers easily put some gemstones (like citrine and peridot) to enhance its natural charm. Sterling silver necklaces come in various designs. Some are endowed with pendants and stone ornaments while others are plain, stylish silver chains.

Necklaces made of silver come in different lengths just like all the other kinds of necklaces. You can have a collection of necklaces that come in different lengths but consider your apparel, facial structure, and body type when choosing a necklace to put on. Keep in mind that your choice for a necklace can either make or break your overall get-up. People first look at your face and as they look down, what they see first is that shimmering piece hanging down your neck, accentuating your mid-chest region which would be otherwise bare.

Buying necklaces online is tricky because you don't get to try them around your neck to see if it would look great. This is even more of an issue if you are choosing jewellery chokers because you need to make sure they fit just right, not too tight and not too loose. So get a good measurement of your neckline and compare it with the measurement of the necklace shown on an online jewellery shop. You can ask the dealer for specifics.

Sterling silver chokers would usually measure around 15 inches and these ornaments simply run around your neckline for sheer accentuation. Collar silver jewellery would be a little shorter than chokers and they give a snug fit. Collar jewellery usually has at least three strands and it clings closer to the neck than any other type of necklace. Long necklaces vary from short princess necklaces that may be as short as 17 inches to lariats that are more than half a yard. Long necklaces made of silver are flexible when it comes to accessorizing and they can be worn in different ways and styles.

Nonetheless, necklace lengths depend on the occasion. Business appointments and corporate meet-ups don't demand for overdressing and too much jewellery. All you need is a matinee silver necklace that settles on the chest. There is no need for luxury silver chokers or rope necklaces. You don't need to look too flashy in the corporate world, especially if there are employee attire codes to adhere to.

When shopping online, read necklace length specifications and find out if the length of the clasp is included. Necklace clasps add less than an inch to the entire length of the jewellery though.
You should also make sure that the silver necklace is of sterling silver and not fake silver. Since it's tough to distinguish between sterling silver and counterfeit, you should buy only from reputable sellers online.

On the other hand, the design and style of the sterling silver necklace is largely a matter of preference, so choose what your heart desires.

Jo is a content writer for 'Silver Jewellery Online' ( http://bestsellersinjewelleries.blogspot.com ), a firm that sells simply the best fashion and sterling silver jewellery to go well with everybody's budget and style. If you're looking for better quality but reasonably priced  Necklets and Chains    or wish to keep up with the hottest trend then don't hesitate to look around  Elements Gold Neckwear  Online and delight in their luxurious and unique collections.

The History of Necklaces

The History of Necklaces

By Martin Smith

Archeologists believe the necklace was born during the stone age about 40,000 years before than previously believed. April 2004, scientists were excavating a cave in South Africa discovered forty-one mollusks that may have been strung as neck jewelry about 75,000 years ago.

Before this discovery the oldest known necklace to have been found about 30,000 B.C. They are made mostly of shells, bones, stones, animal teeth or claws, strung on a thread. Basically the same concept is used today though there are some variations .In 2500 B.C. gold was starting to be used in neck jewelry. Gold neck adornments and chokers have been discovered at the Royal Grave of Ur. They are in what is now known as Iraq. 2000 B.C. was when Sumerian bead neck jewelry started to use alternating patterns of colored stones and gemstones and metals such as copper or silver.

Ancient Egyptian neck jewelry evolved from simple stringed beads to complicated patterns and include the 'broad collar' and pectoral type. They were worn by both sexes, mostly royals and wealthy citizens. They were often buried with their dead owners.

During the Classical Greek period from about 480 to 300 B.C. most necklaces were three dimensional pendants. They were mostly in the form of heads, seeds, or acorns. They were suspended from a row of flat elements usually some type of rosettes.

Alexander the Great in 356 - 323 B.C. conquered the Orient. Gold was plentiful throughout the Greek Empire. It was often used on making in necklaces and other types of jewelry for several centuries.

In Ancient Rome the wearing of jewelry was frowned upon. Laws regulated how much gold could be worn by women or buried along with the dead. From about the first century on, Roman Jewelry began to distinguish itself. Gemstones came into use and were usually cut in circles or rectangular shapes.
In the end of the second century gold piercing techniques were invented. It produced a lace like quality in gold neck jewelry. The favored style of the time was a chain of differently colored gemstones connected by gold links.

In the second and third century it became popular to wear multiple necklaces all at the same time. The types of neck jewelry sometimes indicated the level of wealth or class of the wearer. Necklaces were very popular in whatever form could be made. Over the next few centuries the popularity of wearing of necklaces waned significantly. In the late 14th century necklaces started to regain their popularity due to fashions décolletage.

Making A Beaded Necklace Or Bracelet For Beginners

2-Row Swarovski Crystal Choker Necklace (Silver Plated) Making A Beaded Necklace Or Bracelet For Beginners

By Blue Crockatt

I make all my beaded  Neckwear  by hand, on my website I give many genuine gemstone beads to choose from so people can customize their necklaces (also bracelets & earrings). Whatever beads you might use the technique is the same, I personally use only sterling silver parts & genuine beads such as black onyx, turquoise, red coral, aventurine, amazonite (very popular), rhondonite, mother-of-pearls, freshwater pearls, etc...

I personally use only Beadalon wire which is extremely solid, it comes in many colors & variety some ticker & more solid... Much more expensive then most other wires but this is worth it if you want to make a necklace or bracelet that will truly last. Beadalon can be found in most jewelry findings online stores, Ebay, etc...

Also, you need crimps (can be found in sterling silver, plated silver & other metals) and crimps covers (to hide the crimps & give it a nice professional look). There are special pliers sold to use with crimps & crimps covers which makes the job easier but I have done it before with regular pliers well.

Start by measuring the correct height of wire you want cut it with about 2-3 inches extra to what you need. The extra will be cut at the end but will make it easier to work with & do the tips. Always have a ruler with you, it will be helpful many times. So if you want a 16" necklace cut about 18-19" long of wire.

I always start in the middle, so if you have a pendant or a centerpiece for the necklace put it on now. Make sure the bail or loop is solid. Usually I put a sterling silver ball on each side of the pendant large enough to stop the pendant from moving. Look at the bail or loop, make sure the beads you add on each side are larger. Now is time to add all the beads you want, using the ruler make sure you stop at the desired height. Also don't forget that there will be a clasp at the end which will add some height.

For the clasps, there are many on the market. I usually use sterling silver lobster clasp or spring clasp. Also you need a jump ring soldered to fit with your clasps.

So once you are done adding all those beads start ending the tip on one side. insert a crimp, then the clasp loop, then fold your wire back into the crimp. Tighten the wire so there is no loose wire between the crimp & clasp. Then squeeze the crimp shut with some pliers. Once that is done it should be solid. I always pull a little on it to double check.

Ok now you cut the extra wire on that side leaving about 4-5mm. Using the pliers you fold it over the crimp. Now grab a crimp cover open it wide enough using your finger & set it on top of the folded 4-5mm wire, covering it & the crimp. Close the crimp cover using your pliers delicately. Once that is all done one side is totally finished. Do the same on the other side using once again a crimp but of course a jumpring instead of a second clasp! Then a crimp cover again. Don't forget it must be tight at the end. You shouldn't see any of the wire. Then again don't make it too tight or the necklace will be stiff.

I hope this is easy to understand. It is quite easy to do but the first pieces you make might need a little work redone later when you get better at it.

Shop around before you buy any findings, some places are making way to much profit on people. Search for "jewelry findings" in search engines, and take a look on Ebay also, compare before you buy!

I usually use sterling silver beads of size 2mm, 3mm & 4mm. And for my stone beads I use 4mm & 6mm.
Thank you, It you think this is too much trouble visit my website! My prices are very reasonable.

Vintage Neckties - Every Era Offers Neckwear You'll Love to Wear

By Jackie D.

People wear vintage articles of clothing for a variety of reasons. After all, the only difference between new and used clothing is that the latter is either pre-owned (from yesteryear) or vintage (if made over 20 years ago), whatever the case may be. This is not to mention the fact that many of today's designers borrow fashion ideas from the past, with a modern twist, which brings us to one of many reasons a person would opt for vintage ties: why buy today's borrowed ideas when one can wear the original!

To Celebrate Vintage Neckties and the Eras They Represent

Every decade has offered a different style of   Jewellery Neck wear  not seen before. Skinny neck ties were worn just before World War I, muted patterns were common in the 1920's and 1930s, while bright, colorful, hand painted and novelty themes made their first appearance in the 1940's. This included pin up girls plastered both on the front as well as printed onto the back lining just behind the tip. Things slimmed down again in the 1950's and early 60's until the introduction of wide Kipper neckties in the mid 60's and into the 70's. Narrow neckwear was again reintroduced in the 1980's and it settled in at 3 ½ to 4 inches wide in the 1990's. Every 20 years or so fashion changed, but it always harked back to and built upon the first time a particular style was introduced, as a way to pay homage to the originals. Such is the case, for example, with the wild graphic 40's ties, which designer Martin Wong repeated in his "Screenplay by Martin Wong" line in the 90's.

Today's two toned stripes were first introduced in England in the late 1800's with the advent of university, regimental and club neckties. Other patterns commonly worn today were the mainstay in the 20's and 30's. Thin rockabilly's from the 50's and 60's morphed into a retro look in the 80's and are currently slimmer versions of today's regular widths. A photograph in a recent GQ Magazine showcased skinny neckwear with a panel ornament located midway up, a style straight from the 50's.
Every era started a new trend which has since been copied, but as women know already, authentic clothing by the original designers is really special and today's mass produced copy cats don't come close to the originals. The same goes for men's accessories, not to mention some designs can no longer be found unless one wears an original article of clothing.

To Go Down Memory Lane and to Wear One's Favorite Styles Again
Men of a certain generation have their favorite types of ties, many of which they wore when in high school and during their first years at work. Sometimes they save them and other times they donate them during a spring cleaning only to eventually find them in back in fashion again years later. What goes around comes around, and with skinny neckties now popular again, many men won't have to reminisce about their favorites but actually wear them again or purchase ones similar to those they wore during their youth.

These are some reasons why people buy vintage neckwear. They opt for the real thing over an imitation, which many times also bring back wonderful memories.
